Michael Bodey is a media and communications leader, expert in strategic media and communications, editorial, media insight, speechwriting, crisis management, Plain English, and media training.

He has led teams across different industry sectors, including media, government and the private sector. His communications work includes liaising with ministerial offices, advising heads of department and ministers, and writing speeches for the National Press Club and Parliament.

He was a dual NSW Premiers Award nominee in 2020 for leading the comms strategy on two major projects for the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. He is the author of 5 books, including a modern history of commercial television, Broadcast Wars; interviews with Australia’s Hollywood stars, Aussiewood; a history of Australia-US relations, The Alliance at 70 for the University of Sydney’s United States Studies Centre, and a local history, 50 Secrets of Surry Hills, as a fund raiser for the local public school.

He is a respected voice in Australian media (including regular appearances on ABC Radio for more than 20 years); creator of successful live blogs and podcast; and led the influential Media section of The Australian. He is highly-networked across Australian media.

Jo Turner is a respected, award-winning theatre director, actor, teacher and playwright.

Drawing on his knowledge from forty years in the performing arts he has become an industry leading communications coach, working across the private, government and not-for-profit sectors.

Every human being is unique and responds to communication experiences differently. Jo’s coaching provides practical tools to help clients build confidence, authenticity and have greater impact.

A graduate of Melbourne University (Psychology/Economics) and the Jacques Lecoq Theatre School, he is an expert in body language, vocal presence, dealing with nerves and thinking on your feet.

 Artistic Career

Jo has worked with industry luminaries such as Cate Blanchett, Tim Minchin, Sir Ian McKellen, Jerry Hall, Miranda Tapsell, Robert Redford and Ernie Dingo. He has directed many large-scale theatre productions and creates his own work which has toured to Sydney Opera House, Belvoir Street and the Arts Centre Melbourne. As an actor he has worked with Bell Shakespeare, the Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir Street, Black Swan, the Ensemble and performed in multiple television shows, short films, TV commercials and feature films. As a writer he has had several plays produced (Belvoir Ruby’s Wish, ATYP Max Remy, STC In a Heart Beat ). In a Heart Beat was published in 2013. In 2017 he was awarded the Phillip Parsons Fellowship for playwrighting and in 2022 was a prizewinning finalist in the Shane and Cathryn Brennan Prize (Australian Writer’s Guild) for The Girl Who Glows.

 Coaching Career

As an acting teacher Jo has worked for more than 25 years with institutions including NIDA, The Actors Centre, University of Western Sydney, Queensland University of Technology and the Australian Theatre for Young People.

As a communications coach, he is a senior tutor and facilitator for NIDA Corporate. Privately he works with hundreds of clients, from top executives to new graduates, on internal and external communications, in areas such as presentations, pitches, keynote speeches, media interviews and leadership skills.
